Schwarz|schild radius

Schwarz|schild radius «SHVAHRTS shihlt, SHWRTS shihld»,
the size at which the gravitational forces of a collapsing body in space become so strong that they prevent the escape of any matter or radiation: »

Eventually an object whose collapse continues reaches a limiting size that depends on its mass. The size is called the Schwarzschild radius. For the sun, it is about three kilometers. When the object shrinks to less than its Schwarzschild radius, it becomes a black hole (Science News).
